Insight
A sculptural landmark designed to become the symbolic heart of Providence College.
Idea
The Flame was conceived as more than a monument, it was designed as a spatial experience that embodies the values and identity of Providence College. Inspired by the institution's motto, Veritas ("Truth"), the installation creates a ceremonial focal point where architecture, landscape, and public art converge. Three sculptural flame forms rise from the plaza in a dynamic composition that captures movement, light, and reflection, encouraging visitors to engage with the space from multiple perspectives while transforming a central campus intersection into a place of gathering, reflection, and collective identity.

Impact
By establishing a recognizable landmark at the heart of the campus, The Flame strengthens the sense of place and creates a memorable destination for everyday life and ceremonial events alike. Its reflective stainless-steel surfaces respond to changing weather, daylight, and seasons, while integrated lighting transforms the sculpture into a luminous beacon after dark. Rather than functioning as a static object, the installation continuously evolves with its surroundings, reinforcing the college's identity and fostering moments of interaction, orientation, and community throughout the campus.
